Yes, there were some weaknesses that have surfaced while I was aboard, but these were largely resolved by myself and the engineering staff. The last refit exposed some anomalies in her antimatter engagement systems and have been resolved to my knowledge. In the past the Rosenante's intermix caused a slight variance in her warp signature. It was possible to detect that variance and great distances. We did have a problem that surfaced with the port shield generators. The port generators had a tendency lose efficiency when they overheated. In a firefight we often turned away from that side to avoid damage." Steven Matrix replied. "Thank you Lieutenant." Saleke pondered as the engineer waited, he had been up-front and forthcoming concerning the details he had been asked and had no known ties to any former Doenitz led cabals, had he been trying to ingratiate himself into Saleke's confidence from that perspective with the explosive he had brought to the Ready Room it is unlikely it would have worked... still it was important that the captain bring someone into his confidence at this time to help deal with the unknown saboteur. "Before destroying the device have a dummy casing of it made and reinstall it in place of the explosive so that it appears to be undisturbed to a visual inspection. It is unlikely whoever installed it will do any more as it would add to the likelihood of their discovery." (Reply: Steve) Saleke leaned forward once again. "Also I want you to go over the internal sensor logs for engineering since our departure from Utopia Planitia and attempt to determine if there was anyone entering or loitering in the area who had no need to be there and if so who it was. It is important we narrow down the list of suspects for surveillance. As soon as you have that list bring it to me." (Reply: Steve) "That is all Lieutenant except for one thing." The Vulcan nodded at the engineer. "Thank you for your efforts. Your presence aboard is highly appreciated." Relaxing back into the chair he said. "You may return to your duties." (Reply: Steve) As Lt. Matrix left the room the vulcan pondered his next move. The battle with the Rosenante had been fought on its terms by and large and on their starboard side, should they cross swords metaphorically speaking again he would take the engineer's suggestion very seriously. (Reply: Matrix, any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Ready Room- ACEO, Lt. Matrix - Day 2 - 2158) "Thank you Lieutenant." "Before destroying the device have a dummy casing of it made and reinstall it in place of the explosive so that it appears to be undisturbed to a visual inspection. It is unlikely whoever installed it will do any more as it would add to the likelihood of their discovery." Matrix found the request odd, but logical. ³Aye Sir. I¹ll have a dummy replica back in place immediately.² replied Matrix. The Captain continued with his request, "Also I want you to go over the internal sensor logs for engineering since our departure from Utopia Planitia and attempt to determine if there was anyone entering or loitering in the area who had no need to be there and if so who it was. It is important we narrow down the list of suspects for surveillance. As soon as you have that list bring it to me." ³Yes Sir, I¹ve already initiated a computer search of the sensor logs under a discrete routine that only I know about. I will follow up personally with my findings. Will there be anything else Captain?² asked Matrix. "That is all Lieutenant except for one thing." "Thank you for your efforts. Your presence aboard is highly appreciated." "You may return to your duties." ³Thank you Sir, most kind.² Matrix acknowledged the gesture and left the ready room for engineering. (Reply: Saleke, any) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious Main Engineering Engineers Office - ACEO, Lt. Matrix - Day 2 - 2314) Matrix had long finished replicating the explosive casing and had managed to place it back in its original location without anyone noticing his movements. At this time of day a minimal crew was manning engineering and were usually off working on maintenance items. Normally the ACEOs presents was cause for alarm among the crew, but given the recent activity in the fleet it wasn¹t all that unusual to see line officers working odd hours. The sensor logs were another issue. Nothing in the logs indicated anyone in the area that shouldn¹t have been there. No physical evidence was yet found in the logs. The crews in the area hadn¹t been close enough to open a panel. The computer had been instructed to search the logs and summarize captions of any proximity to the warp coils or intermix chambers. So far, nothing was out of the ordinary. It made it appear that the bomb was planted prior to leaving space dock or beamed into place. Still the sensor logs didn¹t show any unusual energy phenomenon, nor any beaming activity inside engineering. Matrix sat with his elbows on the desk rubbing his eyes. It was late and it was a long day...a long string of days. Matrix looked up from his desk. The engineers office had a commanding view of main engineering. It was dark, lit only by the soft glow of condition lights running along the corridor panels. The panels normally glowed blue in nominal conditions, now however those panels were a light yellow indicating condition yellow status throughout the ship. ³Computer, continue running program Matrix Omega three-eighteen, in objective mode....security authorization Matrix three-one-one-delta.² [Acknowledged] That simple instruction told the computer to continue to piece together the sensor logs discretely. If someone was nosy and reviewing computer cycles the search program would look like normal network cycles. The computer would notify Matrix via secure message if it found something or if the program ended. Usually she couldn’t read human emotions well, but V’Shera thought she noticed a momentarily harried look on her CO’s face. That was highly understandable, given the tremendous pressure he must be dealing with right now. V’Shera noted that he gave her an appraising look, not at all like the other appraising looks that Lt. Nayati had given her in the turbolift. On some subconscious level V’Shera got an unspoken impression that Captain Salid both liked and regarded her as competent officer. Still smiling, Captain indicated that she sit down in the seat across the desk from him. V’Shera did as she was requested. Okay, give it to me straight ensign," Captain Salid said. V’Shera placed her report PADD on the table, half between the captain and herself. “You can read this at your leisure, Sir.’ As she spoke, V’Shera courteously slid her resarch PADD across to her Captain. “The gist of the PADD does definitely indicative the effective tactical use of phasing tes and structural engineers indicated that the energy signature of the PTs that ghosted through our defensives was 0.33 out of phase with our shields. As such, our defensive shields were literally non-existent to these in-coming torpedoes.” (Reply Captain Salid, IYW) “A subsequent search of the Furious’ personal records indicated that Furious weapons engineers, John Johnson. Erin Green and T’Shock could make standard PTs phasic. We have science weapons officers aboard the Rose who could make some of our PTs phasic given the information in our tactical data base, Sir. Their names are tech specialist Paul Gorman and Ensign Ralph Faraday. In my report I recommend tactical consideration be given to developing a few of these phase torpedoes, both as a way of giving the Rose offensive capacity equal to the Furious and in dealing with our mysterious, alternate Rose, who seems to have absolutely no compunction about committing acts of piracy and mass murder. An merciless, anonymous intruder ship whose ultimate goals and prime directives are unknown to us. We have nom idea of what technology this murder star ship might employ against the Rose when we finally catch up to it.” (Reply Captain Salid, IYW) “The same officers should be able to build a phase inhibitor.’” V’Shera continued, “that could protect us against future phasic attacks by the Furious as well. We could tune our sensors, to detect the presence of phasic inhibitors either on the Furious or elsewhere. That idea is no tin my report, as it just came to me as we’ve been talking, Captain.” “Another thought, which is in my report. There might be an alternative way of possibly dealing with phasing offense threats?” Basically, we could have our energy shields to continually create new defense signatures from micro-second to micro-second, that way a phasing torpedo would have no ‘stable’ defense shield frequency to either lock on – or phase through. If you get my drift, Captain Salid?” (Reply Captain Salid, IYW) “I didn’t have time to work his hypothesis, but will if you so order it, Sir.” (Reply Captain Salid, IYW) (posted by Jim McCrary) ===================================================================== (USS Furious - FO's Office- FO, Commander Erin Sloane- Day 5 -1510) Erin watched as her summoned security personnel arrived each in turn. First there was the Vulcan, Sakon. As always he was the stoic, logical type, ready and able to undertake whatever task was assigned to him. In contrast Ensign Jones was only marginally disciplined. His arrival, dominated by his attempt to report in with a mouthful of food of some sort was nothing short of disrespectful. She was about to cut him down to size, when the third and final ensign arrived. Every bit a Klingon, K'tar was one of the most honorable members of the race that she had met. He was dependable and there was no question as to his loyalties, which was why he was selected to undertake this mission. Once they had all arrived and reported in Erin sealed the door of the office and began. "Gentlemen, now that you are all here, I'd like to impress upon you that the assignment I am about to give you will require the highest degree of discretion that you can muster." She looked each of the officers in the eye. "There have been recent developments that I have become aware of that indicates that we have a saboteur on board this ship. There is a slim chance that this individual may or may not be working alone, and so the reason for calling you here for this assignment instead of utilizing the entire security department." "There is a possibility that the saboteur may be stowed away on this ship in one of the areas that internal sensors have difficulty reading." "Those areas are the Antimatter storage areas, the warp nacelle pylon and coil access tubes, the lifeboats and in one of several Jefferies junctions that I have listed on this PADD." "We are going to break into two teams of two. Ensigns Jones and K'tar will be on the first team. You will be searching the Antimatter storage areas, and the lifeboats." "Myself and Ensign Sakon will conduct a thorough search of the Warp Nacelles, Pylons and Coil Access Tubes." "When those searches are complete, we will then start at opposite end of the ship and conduct a deck by-deck search of the Jefferies tubes, beginning at deck one." "It is believed that we are looking for Captain Haverly, although this is not yet confirmed. It is possible that he managed to get aboard the ship by faking a transporter accident." "Are there any questions?" (reply Sakon, K'tar, Jones) "Good, you're dismissed to attend your search. Mister Sakon, please wait for me in the corridor. Mister Jones and I have something to discuss." Once all the other Ensigns had left the office, Erin turned her eyes on to Ensign Jones. "I hope you had an excellent meal ensign. Because it seems to have cost you a great deal today." She began, daring him to say anything. "If you ever report to a senior officer in such a state of undisciplined demeanor again, you will find yourself in the brig for a minimum of 15 days, as well as a reduction of grade and on a work detail for the next 6 months performing the most debasing and disgusting duties I can possibly find on a starship to go along with you're devil may care attitude." She continued to look him in the eyes. "You will conduct yourself properly at all times while you wear that uniform. You will show discipline and the proper respect for the uniform you are wearing. A large number of Starfleet officers have died wearing that same uniform and I'll be damned if I am going to allow you to dishonor their sacrifice." "Am I understood Ensign?" Heh, heh, heh, this might not be such a bad assignment after all.~ Fred Jones was fond of females of any humanoid species, but Human Occidental females were his personal favorite. He began to smile just as the FO asked if anyone had any questions. Now, one would be hard pressed to find an officer in star fleet more clueless than Fred, but even the thickest amongst the military class knows that when a superior gives you an uncomplicated order and asks if you have any questions, you say no. Fred slightly shook his head and said nothing. He noticed the Klingon looking at him. ~He seems pretty cool, maybe I'll ask him if he wants to bowl or play baseball in the holodeck sometime.~ The FO continued with her story and just when Fred thought they were just about to be dismissed, the FO asked him to stay. "I hope you had an excellent meal ensign. Because it seems to have cost you a great deal today." Fred suspected she might be using sarcasm, but was not entirely sure. She then continued. K'Tar and Ensign Sakon listened as Erin Sloan explained what she wanted the teams to do. The Klingon smiled - the kind of smile that would make anyone's skin crawl. Commander Sloan excused Sakon and K'Tar. Jones was told to remain. K'tar understood the tome of voice the Commander used. It was, he searched his memory for the human term - ~Ah Yes Butt chewing~ and left to wait outside. K'Tar was running though his mind how to check. We'll start with pylon and nacelle number 1, starboard Dorsal." (reply sakon) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - corridor- SO, Ensign Sakon- Day 5 -1516) "Mister Sakon, let's head for the Nacelle Pylons." We'll start with pylon and nacelle number 1, starboard Dorsal."   "yes, sir"Sakon said as he followed the commander down the hall. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Warp nacelle Pylon #1 - FO, Commander Erin Sloane- Day 5 -1530) The nacelle pylon, although a potential hiding place because of the difficulties associated with scanning for bio signs here, was not as readily practical as a hiding place. The majority of the pylons were at a 45-degree angle and were ladder strewn. While it was not impossible to camp out here using a harness to keep you in place during rest periods, the heat might make it unlikely that you'd want to stay too long. The warp coils generated a lot of heat and the massive heat exchangers were attached at the base of the nacelle which was the upper most point of the pylon housing. The entire hollow 'tube' of the pylons served as a massive ventilation cooling system, but the temperature was not regulated enough to make the conditions there desirable. Perhaps Sakon might find it more reasonable, as Vulcan was, after all a desert world, but Erin, with her Human heritage most assuredly did not. By the time they had traversed up the steep and narrow ladder to the base of the Nacelles, her uniform was less than pristine, and the darkening crescents of perspiration were clearly visible around her neckline and at her arm pits. ~now that's lady-like~ She thought to herself. She reached up and entered the access code to open the maintenance hatch leading into the nacelle body. During normal operation, especially warp operation there were no personnel in the nacelles themselves. Not unless there was some sort of emergency that required the presence of an engineer. She pulled herself up through the opening above her and waited for Sakon to join her. Once they were both in the nacelle, she reached down and closed the maintenance hatchway so that it would not be possible for either of them to fall through it to their death. The nacelle and pylon meshed together at roughly two-thirds of the nacelle length. The massive 'U' shaped warp coils overhead let off a deep harmonic hum as they received the power generated by the matter/anti matter reaction that was taking place in main engineering. She knew that below her another set was causing the vibration that she felt through the deck. The compartment was incredibly hot, enough so that Erin started sweating even more than she had during the long climb to this point. The ventilation system was not designed to pull enough heat away to make it comfortable, but only to shunt enough to make it habitable although uncomfortable. She turned to the Vulcan. "Okay, now we split up." She said. "Communicators won't work in here, because of the field interference caused by the coils, and tricorders are out as well for the same reason. You work your way aft from the hatch and I'll head fore. If you find anything out of the ordinary, deal with it using your best judgment. I'll meet you back here in 15 minutes." (reply Sakon) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Warp nacelle Pylon #1 - SO, Ensign Sakon- Day 5-1532) Sakon liked the heat in the pylon and made him think of home.  "Okay, now we split up." If you find anything out of the ordinary, deal with it using your best judgment. I'll meet you back here in 15 minutes." Sakon nodded and started walking in the direction instructed. Minutes past and then hours past and he still found nothing of interest. (reply by none) (posted by shawn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 10, ten forward- Chief of Operations, Lt. Jessica McAdams, Day 5 -1630) Jessica relaxed in the comfy chair as she waited for her drink order to arrive, a revitalizing mixed drink known as a Long Island Iced Tea. just the thing to help you unwind after a long shift. Shortly her real work would begin again as she would have to wait while an enormous amount of data was sifted in case of any updates to her orders. The drink came swiftly and she gave the waiter a smile before lifting it to her full lips. The last thing in the world she wanted to see was that engineering tech who happened in the door, He was walking to a table when he saw her and with a smile swaggered over. "Hey Jess, you didn't tell me you would be here." "No I didn't." She noted, not offering him a chair which he took anyway. "Come on." He gave her an aw shucks smile. "Don't be shy. The fun was just getting started when you lit out on me the other night. You sure you don't want to pay another viisit to engineering while I'm on duty tonight? Or maybe meet me later?' He gave her his best come on smile. "I'll make it worth your while." She sighed as she set her drink aside. "I don't know what kind of girl you think I am Sean but I lit out for a good reason, your hands were in places they shouldn't be on a first date and I didn't appreciate it. If you're looking for another date you're going to have to come up with a good reason why I should trust you." He gave her a confused look. "It was your idea wasn't it? You wanted me take you to an out of the way spot to neck and I admit I got a bit worked up but you didn't have to storm out on me like that." She shook her head. "Sorry if I gave you mixed signals but I'm a woman, you'll just have to live with it. In the meantime I'll think about it but right now I'd like some privacy if you please." Her words had the ring of finality. Sean stood to his feet with a hurt expression followed by a go to hell look then turned and went to a table on the far side of the room, she relaxed again and picked up her drink. She had used the man to gain entrance to engineering under his authorization so that she could plant the explosive and he had been extremely pliable but it was past time to put him in his place, if he didn't like it so what? Another swallow of the drink and her vision started to get fuzzy so she sat back in her chair and placed her hands over her eyes as though rubbing them. The corneal implants superimposed an image onto the inside of the retina which was then assimilated by the brain and turned into a mental picture. She could "see" what was being sent to her on the data downlink sifted out of an encrypted repeating pulse like a static carrier wave from the navigational updates. What she saw was more of the same. There had been no change of orders therefore the plan remained the same, after the capture or destruction of the Rosenante captain Saleke would have to die and if he managed to avoid death then the whole ship would become a casualty. Having pretended to massage her eyes and temples she opened them again and picked up her still cold drink. It was soothing and refreshing, just the kind of thing a spy and saboteur needed to relax after a hard day. (Reply: None) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Forward Jeffries Tube - Captain David Haverly, - Day 5 -1845) Captain Haverly was not a man to die easily though there were times he wished that he had. Since his disappearance he had undergone severe psychological and physical torture and deprivation. All the while he could see nothing more of his tormentor than a black outline due to the low light level and the closely fitting all black clothing that da**able woman had been wearing. Yes it was true she had gone to all the trouble of disguising her voice with an electronic unit but her sex was all too obvious unless you were both blind and dumb. Why she had imprisoned him here in shackles with his mouth gagged and the chains tightly stretched so that he couldn't use them as noisemakers to warn someone... anyone of his presence here was still unclear. The only questions she had ever asked were "Why didn't you fight back?" and "Who paid you to undermine the regime?" Had he been in Starfleet during Doenitz's reign of terror captaining a ship? Yes he had but he had never committed treason nor had he sold out the Federation. The only error he had made to his knowledge was in letting that vulcan captain slip by his picket line just before the all out assault on the Federation by the 52nd fleet. How that vulcan captain whos name escaped him managed to slip through the line he couldn't say but the raid had been an unqualified success and before his ship had been shot apart around him he had managed to throw the whole rear supply line into chaos. He didn't hate the vulcan though, who could hate someone who could be so resourceful and after all the new Federation wasn't that bad. Doenitz wasn't in the drivers seat but all in all it was the same starfleet but this time without a civil war to fight. Was this why he had been imprisoned and tortured? Had someone overheard him make a remark on that vein and had taken to hating him so much that they would do this to a fellow human being? The only time he was allowed off the shackles was to dispose of waste material but it didn't matter, he was too weak now after more than a week of torment to fight back anymore and she was always careful to keep him covered with her weapon. He figured she would eventually get around to killing him after she was tired of this game she was playing. After all his face was now no more than a bloody mess he was sure and at least a couple of ribs were cracked or broken and his legs and arms were numb from being in such cramped positions all of the time and she kept him on a near starvation diet. He was in the mood today to give up, to just lay back, close his eyes and never wake up. Inhuman treatment could do that to a person, even the thought of staying alive long enough to see the b**** get her just desserts didn't have the same appeal any more. He closed his eyes and went to sleep wondering how long it would be before she ended it and hoping it would be soon. (Reply: Any Security team) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Forward Jeffries Tube - Ensign Fred Jones, - Day 5 -1857) Fred hummed to himself, as he crawled down the Jefferies Tube. He wanted to team up with the Klingon, but had been told the search would go faster if they split up. He and the others had already been searching for nearly four hours. He had stopped by engineering to see if the lovely ensign Yoon was on duty. She had not been. ~That's kinda weird~ Fred thought. ~The last few times I've been down there she wasn't there. Hmmm. I hope she isn't sick or something.~ Fred's revelry was ended when he got to the end of the line. He was now all the way forward on deck 13. "Nothin'" Fred sighed. "Computer log deck 13 as cleared." [Negative, Ensign Jones, you have not explored the adjacent passage 5 meters from your current position.] Fred was confused and began to scratch his head. "I don't see any adjacent passage, this is a dead end!" He then muttered. "Stupid computer." [Ensign, if you move 5 meters backward, the passage will be on your left.] Fred groaned and began to get frustrated. "Okay computer, have it your way. I'm moving back 4 meters." [5 meters. Now 4.3 meters and descending.] "Okay, okay! 5 meters!" Fred crawled backwards until he was 5 meters behind his previous position. He saw nothing but the smooth wall of the Jefferies tube on his left. "Alright Einstein, I crawled backwards, now where's the junction?" [I'm sorry Ensign Jones, customarily, the officers and crew of a Starfleet vessel, refer to me as Computer. Do you wish me to respond to "Computer"? or the names of 20th century physicists?] "For cripes sake! Where's the passageway?!" Fred nearly yelled. There was a pause. [Ensign, was that question directed at me? Or were you indulging in colorful metaphors again?] Fred began to tremble with rage. He paused and then took a deep breath. "Computer, I don't see the passage. I only see a blank wall." [Ensign, the passage is to your left.] Fred began to howl. "There isn't anything to the left. There isn't anything to the right. It's a blank wall." Fred balled his fists and slammed them into the wall on the left. Unfortunately his hands, and his whole body seemed to go through the wall altogether. Fred then found himself sprawled on the floor of a hitherto unseen passage. In front of him was a man bound and gagged and chained to a wall, apparently sleeping. [Ensign, it appears there is a holographic generator simulating a wall outside the Jefferies tube. Do you wish it to be disabled?] Fred shook his head. ~Now it tells me.~ "Yes, computer shut it off." Fred stared at the bound man. He shook him, the man seemed to wake up and look agitated. "Who are you pal? And what are you doing here?" Then man merely looked more agitated and kept grunting. [Ensign Jones, might I suggest you remove the gag from the Captain and then ask him questions.] Jones paused. "Oh, right." He pulled off the Captain's gag. "Who are you?" (Reply Haverly.) "Hey that's funny, because we are looking for a Captain Haverly." Fred said smiling. (Reply Haverly or none.) "Oh wait! Your the Captain Haverly we're looking for!" Fred then tapped his comm badge. "Jones to security team, I found Haverly!" (Reply any of the security team or any.) "You know, you look pretty unconfortable." Jones said as he nodded sagely to the Captain. (Reply Haverly or none.) Morgan Belcher -------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Forward Jeffries Tube - Captain David Haverly, - Day 5 -1859) The bound man woke groggily at the shaking while wondering what his punishment would be today or would she feed him perhaps? He never knew beforehand what treatment he would receive. What he saw though was not a woman but a florid faced security officer. ~A security officer? How? Why?~ He calmed himself, perhaps his tormentor had recruited others into her little game. "Who are you pal? And what are you doing here?" That didn't sound like the response of a cohort of his nemesis, trying to talk around the gag was ineffectual of course. The man looked off as though hearing a communication which he then responded to. "Oh, right." Reaching toward Haverly he pulled the wadding of the gag from his mouth. "Who are you?" He pulled in a deep breath of sweet air before managing to croak through dry mouth and lips. "Captain Haverly, David Haverly." "Hey that's funny, because we are looking for a Captain Haverly." The man said with a smile. Captain Haverly looked at him with shock, the mans eyes were almost vacant now that he thought about it and he actually appeared confused at the idea that the man he had found might be the one he was seeking. ~Oh my God! How did he get on my ship?~ "Oh wait! Your the Captain Haverly we're looking for!" The idea finally tunneled through the thickened layers of the mans skull. David tried to lean back but he was still trussed up with shackles that held him tightly bound. "Jones to security team, I found Haverly!" (Reply any of the security team or any.) "You know, you look pretty uncomfortable." The man noted after speaking with the others that were with the search teams. "What a quaint observation." The captain wanted to say more but unconsciousness crept upon then claimed him, his weakened condition would not be denied. At least though when he passed out it was with the knowledge he was about to be freed. ~Or is this another part of her game?~ He fought back and managed to open his eyes again, he had just blinked out for a second surely. Sure enough the security officer was still there awaiting a response. "Uncomfortable is putting it mildly, get me out of these da** chains now! Move it mister!" His croaks probably didn't sound very commanding but at least they had the desired effect. (Reply: Fred Jones) When the shackles were removed he tried to move his arms and legs but the rush of blood into the numbed limbs was excruciating, he cried out before blackness claimed him. (Reply: Fred Jones, any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Forward Jeffries Tube - Ensign Fred Jones, - Day 5 -1900) Captain Haverly said, "Uncomfortable is putting it mildly, get me out of these da** chains now! Move it mister!" "Sure thing Captain." Fred removed the shackles as gently as he possibly could. When the shackles were removed the Captain tried to move his arms and legs but the rush of blood into the numbed limbs was excruciating, he cried out before passing out. "Captain? Are you okay?" Fred slapped the side of the Captain's Face. Fred sat back stunned. "He's dead..." [Ensign Jones, the captain is not dead, he is simply unconscious. Shall I summon a medical team?] "Yeah, good idea." Fred replied. The computer summoned a medical officer. Fred sat back and watched the comatose Captain. He pulled out some crackers and started munching. He could here people approaching. (Reply: Security, Medical or any) Morgan Belcher --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Outside Forward Jeffries Tube - SO Ensign K'tar, - Day 5 -1905) K'tar was proceeding cautiously - preferring to be methodical versus rash. He wanted to live a long life! Ensign Jones seemed a bit subdued compared to earlier. Jones cried out via his comm badge - "Jones to security team, I found Haverly!" Tapping his own badge K'tar repield " K'tar i am coming to your location - out". Reversing his direction of travel, the Klingon arrived at Jones's location. Enter slowly entered the tube where Jones and the C captain were. Smiling (or what passed for a Klingon smile), K'tar told Jones - "Well Done Ensign Jones. Let's get the Captain to Sick Bay under guard". (reply: Jones or Captain Haverly) "Captain, I'm K'tar - please allow us to tend to you. Let me help you to our sickbay" he asked gently. (reply: Captain) "Cmdr Sloan, K'tar here. Please join Ensign Jones, Captain Haverly and myself in Sickbay" and waited for a reply. (reply: Cmdr Sloan) "Ensign Jones, get hold of Security and ask a security team to meet us in Sickbay" K'tar instructed. (reply: Jones, Security) K'tar didn't beleive in premonitions but he believed that this merited more help. "Captain, let me assist you to Sickbay and we can better protect you there" the burly Klingon told the ravished figure before him. (reply: Captain) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 18- aft Jefferies tube- FO, Commander Erin Sloane- Day 5 -1906) ~Damn I hate crawling through Jefferies tubes.~ Erin thought as she made her way along the tube towards the aft of the ship. Their several hour long search had so far yielded nothing. She and Sakon had cleared the four nacelles pylons and tubes with some difficulty, and Erin knew that she was barely presentable in her uniform as a result. To make matters worse the Jefferies tubes on the Prometheus class starship were designed to conserve space, that is to say, that they were designed to be have a low enough ceiling to not permit normal upright motion, but were too long to convince you to want to crawl on your hands and knees to get anyplace within a reasonable amount of time. To make matters worse, after bending over in a walking crouch for any length of time, her lower back was beginning to ache and her upper legs were equally unhappy. She turned to look back at Sakon who was headed up the tube to join her. They were getting ready to move upwards to deck 17 and start the search all over again. =^=Jones to security team, I found Haverly!=^= Her commbadge chirped so suddenly as to cause Erin to try to stand up with a sudden start. Her head met the low ceiling and a string of explicatives escaped her lips. They were the sort of language that would have made an admiral blush. Rubbing her head with one hand. She tapped her commbadge with the other. "Sloane here. Where are you Jones?" she asked as Sakon met her. She gestured for the exit into the corridor. She didn't get an answer right away, which started Erin worrying. Perhaps Jones had encountered the captain and had been rendered ineffective. She was about to tap her commbadge again to order a search for Jones' commbadge when K'Tar's voice came through. =^=Cmdr Sloan, K'Tar here. Please join Ensign Jones, Captain Haverly and myself in Sickbay=^= ~So someone is injured.~ She thought. ~K'Tar must have handled it, then~ "Understood K'Tar, we'll see you there." She tapped her commbadge to close the channel and turned to Sakon. "Looks like we're headed for sickbay." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 18- aft Jefferies tube- SO, Ensign Sakon- Day 5-1907) Sakon had been searching for hours and did not find any thing. Just as Sakon reached the first officer the call came that haverly was found. She tapped her commbadge to close the channel and turned to Sakon. "Looks like we're headed for sickbay." And sakon followed the commander to sickbay. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Outside Forward Jeffries Tube - Captain Haverly, - Day 5 -1908) Captain Haverly swam in inky darkness while around him another gravely voice joined the one who had found and unbound him earlier. "Well Done Ensign Jones. Let's get the Captain to Sick Bay under guard". Haverly didn't have the strength to respond as of yet but it was comijng back to him slowly, he opened his eyes in relief that the pain was gone and his limbs felt almost normal again though a bit cramped which was at least partially due to a lack of water. (reply: Jones or Captain Haverly) "Captain, I'm K'tar - please allow us to tend to you. Let me help you to our sickbay" the Klingon asked gently. It took too much strength to speak now so he nodded his head in understanding. "Cmdr Sloan, K'tar here. Please join Ensign Jones, Captain Haverly and myself in Sickbay" The Klingon security guard said then waited for a reply. ~Now HE fits the bill for a security guard.~ Haverly thought. ~At least he looks it,~ He didn't want to jump to conclusions after the discovery of this other character. :-) He waited as the klingon continued to report and give orders. "Captain, let me assist you to Sickbay and we can better protect you there" the burly Klingon said. Inhaling a deep breath Haverly nodded before venturing to use his voice. "All right. Help me to my feet. (Reply: K'Tar, Jones) Once on his feet he swayed for a moment supported by the two officers before venturing a step, his progress was slow and painful and he needed to rest periodically but with their help he was able to leave the scene of his torment and was gaining strength slowly as they entered the main jeffries tube. What a relief to put that damnable place behind him, the thought spurred on his flagging energies allowing him to pick up his pace slightly with the two security officers on either side and bolstering him. "Thanks men for your help." (Reply: K'Tar, Jones) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Outside Forward Jeffries Tube - SO K'tar, - Day 5 -1908.5) K'tar, Jones and Captain Haverly had finally exited the Jeffries Tube. The Klingon Security Officer introduced himself to the Captain and suggested they head to Sickbay. In his depleted condition, the Captain merely nodded. K'tar began to issue instructions and notified Cmdr Sloan they had found the Captain and were heading to Sick Bay. He went a step further and have additional Security Officers meet them in Sick Bay. Captain Haverly seemed determined to move under his own power and instructed Jones and K'tar "All right. Help me to my feet". The two Furious officers complied. Haverly wisely took his time and walked slowly. K;tar and Jones suggested he proceed only as he felt able. Several rest breaks were needed. Arriving outside Sick Bay Haverly spoke to the two men ""Thanks men for your help." K'tar nodded. K'tar wasn't sure why he needed thanks. He was a warrior helping another that was all. The trio entered Sick Bay following the Captain who had been placed on a gurney and was being attend by several medical staff. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 13, Outside Forward Jeffries Tube - Ensign Jones, - Day 5 -1909) Captain Haverly began to stir. "Well Done Ensign Jones. Let's get the Captain to Sick Bay under guard". K'tar said. Fred smiled. "Thanks Buddy!" He slapped K'tar on the back. He then positioned himself to lift the Captain. The captain opened his eyes and began to look around. (Reply Captain Haverly or none.) "Captain, I'm K'tar - please allow us to tend to you. Let me help you to our sickbay" the Klingon asked gently. The Captain didn't speak, he just nodded. "Cmdr Sloan, K'tar here. Please join Ensign Jones, Captain Haverly and myself in Sickbay." The Klingon security guard said then waited for a reply. (Reply Sloan or any.) "Captain, let me assist you to Sickbay and we can better protect you there." the burly Klingon said. The Captain nodded and then said. "All right. Help me to my feet." Fred helped the Captain get to his feet. (Reply K'Tar) The Captain then said, "Thanks men for your help." "No problem Captain!" Replied Fred. (Reply K'Tar or Captain, any.) Fred and K'Tar helped the Captain get to his feet, and the three made it into the main corridor and started heading for sick bay. They got a few meters before the Medical Team arrived and placed the Captain on a gurney. (Reply Any Medical Team, Captain or K'Tar.) They began to wheel him to sick bay. Fred shook his head and looked at K'Tar. "What do you think he was doing there in the first place?" (Reply K'Tar, any.) Fred shrugged. "Yeah I figured he either was being held prisoner, or he really needs to get a different girlfriend." Fred began to slowly shake his head. He then pulled out another cracker and began to crunch on it. He offered one to K'Tar. "Cracker?" He asked the Klingon. (Reply K'Tar, any.) Even though it's their duty." As usual, Fred has said something almost intelligent, and then dashed it all with one of his Neanderthal comments. (reply Saleke) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Captain's Quarters- CO, Captain Saleke- Day 5 -1931) The vulcan was a creature of habit by nature who had not had an opportunity while on the Furious to get out and "mingle" with the crew which was a policy he had begun while on the Akira class USS Mystique at the urging of Dr. Riven Mias. That command had been unexpected and necessitated by the incapacitation of Captain Vanyssa Winters during a mission in which they had encountered the sentient and telepathic Hiren space station Pattia which had been built by a race of beings referred to as the Founders. Captain Winters had essentially sacrificed herself in the battle with Pattia's counterpart which had been found by agents of Rodrigo Doenitz. Its central nexus had been transferred to a Federation starship, integrated into its systems and sent to destroy its rival. The Hiren enemy had gone insane during its thousands of years of dormancy and the mental blast Winters had used to defeat it had depleted her mental energies and left her essentially brain dead. During the ships return to Geneva Saleke had been promoted to captaincy and though upon arrival at the starbase the Mystique had been mothballed and him given a newly built ship to command it HAD been his first command. During commands of the Hades and Poseidon he had continued the policy of meeting with the crew occasionally in ten forward originally suggested by the Betazed mind healer whom he counted among his small circle of friends which included his current CSO Holis Gralen. Taking over a ship about to be launched at the last minute had broken that routine however as it had necessitated him spending an inordinate amount of his free time supervising the modifications that would bring it up to his high standards of functionality. The current chase of the marauding ship that had attacked Bardon Alpha and was attempting to fabricate a weapon of terror had reinforced that cycle of seclusion. After spending an hour in meditation in which he had laid out the steps he would follow at Hexicor Prime though he resolved to break that vicious circle, having freshened up he was about to leave his cabin when an unexpected chime signaled the arrival of someone at his door. "Come." He said and was taking a seat at the small desk in the antechamber before the entry of his domicile when Commander Sloane entered. The furnishings of his chamber were sparse and belonged to the former Captain Haverly which Saleke had not yet had removed (Reply: Erin) "Sit down Commander." He gestured to a nearby chair. "What purpose brings you to my cabin?" (Reply: Erin) "Indeed." He said. " Is he conscious and what timetable has medical given for his full recovery?" (Reply: Erin) "Has he been able to make an identification yet of his captor?" (Reply: Erin) "What steps have you taken in regards to his safety?" He was confident that she had made arrangements that he would find acceptable, Erin Sloane had so far proved to be a capable command officer. (Reply: Erin) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Captain's Quarters- FO, Commander Erin Sloane- Day 5 -1932) As the door to the captain's quarters slid open, Erin stepped into the compartment noting that the sparse décor that had belonged to Haverly were still in place. "Sorry to bother you captain." she said as she saw Saleke sitting at a small desk. ~always the working captain, I see.~ She thought. "Sit down Commander." He gestured to a nearby chair. "What purpose brings you to my cabin?" Erin sat as indicated and once settled wasted no time in answering the captain's question. "We located Captain Haverly, Alive, in a Jefferies tube alcove on deck 13." She reported. "Someone was using a holographic projector to hide the alcove and him. The projector was connected to the ship's network." "Indeed." He said. " Is he conscious and what timetable has medical given for his full recovery?" "He's been fading in and out. Doctor Foster has indicated that with the electrolyte and vitamin supplements and plenty of rest he'll recover. He suffered from a broken rib and a punctured left lung. The doctor has already seen to those injuries. Maybe 48-72 hours at the outside. It depends on how he responds to the treatments and if any other medical issues are revealed as he heals." Erin replied. "Has he been able to make an identification yet of his captor?" Saleke queried. "Nothing other than the fact that his captor is a woman. He stated that she wore some sort of jumpsuit with an integrated mask. Eye coverings and a voice modulator. But he could tell she was most definitely female and she spoke excellent standard, so most likely either a human or someone who grew up on Earth or one of her core colonies." she answered. "What steps have you taken in regards to his safety?" Saleke continued. "I have Ensign K'Tar on personal protective duty until such times as we relieve him. Only the two of us and the medical team has access. At this stage. I sent Sakon and Jones to the scene where they found Haverly and asked them to recover the evidence there and have it in my office no later than 2100 hours. I also ordered a sensor emitter be placed to alert us if the captor should return." (reply Saleke) "I have a question Captain and that is what does Captain Haverly know that our captor needed to know desperately enough to keep him alive? And therefore risk potential discovery Rather than just killing him outright?" (reply Saleke) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Captain's Quarters- CO, Captain Saleke- Day 5 -1934) "I have Ensign K'Tar on personal protective duty until such times as we relieve him. I sent Sakon and Jones to the scene where they found Haverly and asked them to recover the evidence there and have it in my office no later than 2100 hours. I also ordered a sensor emitter be placed to alert us if the captor should return." Saleke nodded, once again duty called and his plans to circulate among the crew would have to be postponed. "Excellent. Any evidence will need to be kept under the tightest security until either you or I are able to examine it. Word of his rescue will circulate among the crew eventually but the longer we can suppress it the higher our chances of catching his abductor in a slip." He considered transferring Haverly to the emergency sickbay on deck 5 to further isolate him and in a private room under an alias using site to site beaming but decided that the activity in emergency sickbay would only draw unwanted notice. "Additionally I want his room continuously monitored in case we have a mole or someone is able to bypass security, any blackouts of that monitoring will be assumed to be interference and immediate action taken. Once this meeting is concluded I will debrief him myself, there is perhaps a chance he will agree to a mind link as well once he is deemed strong enough. I might be able to glean some additional intelligence from him in that manner." "I have a question Captain and that is what does Captain Haverly know that our captor needed to know desperately enough to keep him alive? And therefore risk potential discovery rather than just killing him outright?" The question was pertinent but unanswerable. "I am unable to formulate a logical answer to that question at this time. While he might know something that would undermine this agent's agenda there are any number of other possible permutations not limited to a personal vendetta by either the agent or her commanding agency. His own political leanings might factor into this attack as well." He stood to his feet. "We might perhaps be able to draw further conclusions after speaking with him but that is not a "lock". I believe that is the proper colloquialism, the only way to know for certain is to speak with him. You may accompany me if you wish or continue your interrupted off cycle." (Reply: Erin) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Deck 10, Sickbay- CO, Captain Saleke- Day 5 -1940) Saleke entered sickbay and moved to Doctor Foster who was still currently on staff. Since no one was around he got straight to the point as was his manner. "I am here to see your new patient doctor." The man nodded diffidently and motioned with his head for the Captain to follow him to the room at the rear of sickbay normally reserved for either very important or very sick patients and stopped outside the door. Turning to Saleke he spoke in a low tone. "He's currently sleeping Captain, from his condition I'd say not only does he need it but he's probably gotten very little from the way he was positioned while held captive. I've got him on an IV to replenish his electrolytes and vital nutrients as well as medication and a painkiller, there was substantial stiffening of his muscles along with his other injuries. I'd appreciate it if you would keep your visit short for now." Saleke nodded in agreement. "Is he strong enough for a mind link?" The doctor drew in a deep breath. "That's debatable but I'll leave it up to him, if he agrees to it though my original point still applies. I'll give you fifteen minutes to speak with him for now, tomorrow he will probably be strong enough for an extended visit." "Understood doctor." Having spoken he stepped through the door. Inside the room were the Captain and Klingon security officer he recognized who was poised alertly beside the door. "At ease Mr. K'Tar." (Reply: K'Tar) The doctor moved to the patients bedside and placing his hand gently on the man's shoulder leaned down and spoke to him softly. "Captain Haverly you have a visitor. Captain Haverly are you awake?" The battered figure on the biobed stirred fitfully for a second before opening his eyes. "Doctor..." His face had been cleaned and treated but was still swollen and bruised and his black hair was tousled, had Saleke seen him without knowing his identity he would have been taxed to make a quick ID. Bandages were wrapped around his wrists with an IV protruding from under the right one. "Captain Saleke is here to see you Captain Haverly, I'm giving him a short interview if you're up to it. Do you feel like talking?" "Yes." His voice had grown a little stronger. Dr Foster nodded at Saleke. "I'll leave you two alone for now but I'll be back in fifteen minutes." "Thank you Doctor." Saleke turned to the Klingon. "Remain at your station iMr. K'Tar." Maddox - 1902)   Andrew rubbed his temples trying to relieve some tension.  He had been at this for three days, with very little sleep.  Using known variables from the evidence at hand and what the database showed, he attempted to narrow down the pool of choices the computer had to draw from.   He started with the obvious.  Taking away the realities that Earth, some incarnation of an earth space faring orginization, and last but not least, only ones with comparable technology to the current Federation.   ~Still only a 33% reduction.~ he thought in frustration.   It seemed that in most realities, humans were ment to explore the galaxy.    ~Perhaps another way to narrow it down.  Maybe if I narrow it down to ones that have a Rosenante.~  He thought.   [Insufficient Data.] Came the computer's response.   ~Evidently there aren't any recorded alternate realities after the creation of the Rose.~ he mused.   Andrew knew that quantum theory postulated that every choice or out-come that could have happened has, each in a separate reality.  Some even theorized that these realities occupied the same space/time, the only thing holding them separate was their quantum resonance.  Maddox didn't know which of the many theories he specificly endorsed, because there wasn't enough evidence to his liking to concretely support any one of the theories.  There were facts however that he would use to solve it.  Each choice, each reality had it's own frequency also called a resonance that one could use to identify it should it become detached from it's own home.   Then it came to him.  The behavior of the foriegn crew was different, sometimes the moors and values of a society can change the choices and eventualities that transpired.   He filtered the results for societies from Earth that had more violent tendencies.   [Match found.] chirped the computer shortly after.   "Display results." he said.   The display infront of the Starfleet scientist came alive with information.  He had his answer.   "Computer, location of Captain Salid." he asked.   (Reply Daniel for Computer)   Andrew thought for a second, ~ I know it's kind of late, maybe he is working on something.  He did want to know when an answer was found.  ~   "Maddox to Captain Salid."   (Reply Captain Salid)   "I know it's late sir, and I'm sorry to disturb you but this is important." he said appologeticly.   (Reply Captain Salid)   "The database identifies the individuals from what is coloquial of the 'Mirror Universe'.  A world where the social and moral moors are nearly opposite or a mirror image of our own.  First encountered during an early transporter accident on the USS Enterprise NCC -1701, commanded by Captain James T. (Reply None) Posted by Jack --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha Moon- Corridor Junction- PCO- Commander Brian Romeo - Day 7 - 1355.5) Death. What was death except a transition from one state of consciousness to another? Was it a great barrier that was without form or texture? Was it a transformation of ones spiritual essence? Perhaps it was a great glowing eternity of perpetual glory that washed over you and cleansed the soul to begin anew. Brian didn't know. He had never died before. What he remembered was hard to explain, but it went something like this: At first there had been the realization that he had been shot. A pain that spread through his body as his cybernetic heart overloaded critical switches and the muscles of his body started to go into shock. Then there was a sudden realization that it was his brother, although changed, that had fired the murderous shot. Had he done so much wrong to Mike that the man, his own flesh and blood brother had despised him so much? Certainly they had not gotten along well, after Mike's father had died and his mother had married Brian's father. Brian had been the result of that union only three years after the death of Mike's father and the young Rosenbauer had never quite been on friendly terms with the boy that he considered the personification of his mother's betrayal to the man that had been her first husband. They had disagreed over almost everything growing up; women, studies, sports- and on more than one occasion those arguments had come to blows. Mike joined Starfleet and Brian in an attempt to show his brother that they were not so different and perhaps gain his friendship or at least acceptance had followed along 5 years later. They talked, although not frequently and not with much amiability, but Brian had never thought that he had been such a horrible brother. Then the Civil War came. Mike joined the 52nd fleet, while Brian had joined the Doenitz Loyalists. Mike's career led him to the Starfleet Rangers, while Brian's led him to the Special Developments Division. He had spent his time trying to strengthen the fleet against the insurgents. Designing new weapons, modifying existing ones. It was only after the war ended that he came to discover that some of those same improved weapons had been used to sterilize entire planets, or kill millions, perhaps billions. Yet despite all of that, Brian had told himself that he had acted in the best interests of the Federation. He could not be responsible for the actions that some of the Admirals had taken during the war. And so when he was given the opportunity to once again work with the Loyalists to support their shared vision of a stronger Federation. This new device was promised that it would not kill billions, instead it was so powerful that the simple knowledge that it was possessed by Loyalist officers would be enough to affect a bloodless coup. A bloodless civil war of sorts, completely devoid of death and destruction. Certainly one initially established on the threat of extreme violence, but that same threat would never have to be carried out. But when he had seen his brother, the man who had shot him do so without hesitation, he began to contemplate his decision. If mike was here and so willing to kill him, could Brian be wrong about his assessment? The entire length of time seemed to be virtually forever, but in fact it lasted only a few moments. In the span of a blink of an eye, the backup safeties built into the cybernetic heart tripped and the heart began operating once again in back up mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha Moon- Development Lab Three- AOPS - Ensign Robert Smith (MU) - Day 7 - 1400) Caskie as always started issuing orders. Smith had seen it enough times to think that some day he could just as easily make demands upon people and they would be compelled to follow. It wasn't truly ability to inspire or even ability to lead that made the captains of the imperial fleet commanding officers. It was the fear that they generated through ruthlessness. That is what made them people of importance. A few officers could inspire as well as bully. But they were far and few between. Caskie was not one of them. Rixx said something to him that took him a moment to register, but when it did, he simply nodded. "Ensign," she said, "We're going to need to transport out of this room once we're done. Could you see if you can shut down the magnetic field? There must be an access panel for it." Robert nodded, "Yes of course." he replied. There wasn't any dislike of having Rixx order him around. After all, she was mostly harmless. Robert moved over to the indicated area and using one of the consoles, pulled up a schematic of the stations systems. There didn't seem to be an override, and as the magnetic field generator wasn't very close, he simply routed more power to it than it could handle. There was a loud explosion as the generator one deck down disintegrated under the power load out. "The field has been neutralized." Robert reported, then moved to help Rixx complete the disconnection of the shield generator and computer that was attached to it. A few minutes later, the engineer ordered to components beamed off the station and they dematerialized with a hum. Once the Rosenante confirmed receipt of the device, Caskie ordered the rest of the away team beamed out. Just before that happened Robert turned and looked at Benoit, and gave him a smile. He owed the man a small favor in the future and Robert always repaid his favors. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Transporter Room 1 - AOPS - Ensign Robert Smith (MU)- Day 7 - 1407) As everyone started filtering off the Transporter PADD, Robert thought that Dawson was looking a little ill around the gills. "Mr. Smith, thank you for your help you are dismissed." Jennifer let a small smile lift one corner of her mouth. "I am fairly certain that you will have a great deal to do in Ops at present." Her smile widened to a grin. "No doubt the Captain will contact you to inform you who the new head of your department will be." "No doubt commander. Thank you." Robert replied. He then turned and left the transporter room quickly. He had to quickly consolidate his powerbase before word of Jackson's death spread throughout the ship. There were a few of Jackson's followers that might prove worrisome yet, although the majority of them would probably toe the line that Smith set for them now. (reply none needed) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Transporter Room 1 - FO - Cmdr Jennifer Caskie (MU) - Day 7 - 1405) Jennifer watched as the room coalesced around her. The first think that caught her attention was Transporter Chief Dawson and the horrified look on his face. Admittedly he was never going to be the brightest light on the Christmas tree by a long shot, but he could at least count and even with the two new additions to the party he had realised that someone was missing. Jennifer's grin grew wider as she saw the look of horror cross his face. Stepping off the platform she began issuing orders. "Rixx go with our acquisitions and help whoever will be working with it. You know best how you removed it, you will know best how to help connect it. Oh and Rixx.. Good work down there. You did well." (Reply Rixx) "Mr Smith, thank you for your help you are dismissed." "Escort this little troll to the brig. Mr Nayati and I will report to the Captain." (Reply Mike) Finally Jennifer turned to regard her new body servant who was still standing on a transporter padd. Shaking her head she smiled at him. "Not good, not good at all. I thought you were a quick learner. I even gave you the chance to help us and what did you do?. Nothing. I saved you thinking that there might have been a little spark there, hidden somewhere deep in your pitifully decent little soul, but no, I was wrong. There's nothing there that I want. Mr Dawson, beam him back out into space." She turned to regard Dawson and watched him realise that his choice was either this person or himself. Not waiting for him to comply she left the transporter room, but not before she heard the sound of the transporter activate again. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenate - Bridge - FO Cmdr Jennifer Caskie (MU) - Day 7 - 1408) Stepping back on to the Bridge Jennifer crossed to the Captain. I agreed and brought one back. He is currently being escorted to the brig by Rosenbauer. I left the other one of the pair alive and I think that Dr Wyler might find it 'interesting' to see what information she might gather regarding this." Stepping off the pad, she couldn't help but see the somewhat slack jawed Dawson doing the math. ~Looks like I'm not the only one worried.~ She thought as she stood for a moment and waited. The First Officer hadn't dismissed them and she didn't want to make an assumption that she would be. "Rixx go with our acquisitions and help whoever will be working with it. You know best how you removed it, you will know best how to help connect it. Oh and Rixx.. Good work down there. You did well." The First Officer ordered. "Yes, Sir." She said with a slight nod, "Thank you, Sir." She added just as quickly. Wasting no time, she exited what was beginning to feel like a very small room. ~You did well.~ She thought with a smile. That was way better then hearing 'Ensign Rixx, report to Dr. Wyler.' No one wanted to hear that type of order. She knew she wasn't the first engineer to have ignored an injury until they were certain that the "good" doctor was off shift. Even though it hadn't been indicated where the devices were transported to, it didn't take a genius to figure it out. Something had been going on in cargo bay 3 for the last few days and Lt. Bird had been keeping it under wraps. After making a quick stop in engineering to change out her small kit for a much larger one, Mitena headed directly there. Having seen what it took to get everything unattached she had a better idea of what would be needed to reattach it properly. Besides, some tools you just didn't get to use every day. (reply none) (posted by Ruby) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Transporter Room 1 - Transporter Chief - Ensign Josh Dawson (MU) -Day 7-1406) When the away team reappeared on the transporter pad josh was immediately petrified. It didn't take very long before he realized that Lieutenant Jackson was not with the rest of the team. The ensign quickly rechecked his sensors, looking for any sign of the lieutenant, and coming up short. ~Caskie's going to kill me.~ he thought. For a long moment, he was blissfully ignored as the commander gave her orders to the various members of her away team. Then she gave him an easy way out. There was an individual still remaining on the transporter pad and the commander turned to him with a wicked look in her eyes. Mr. Dawson, beam him back out into space." The commander turned to regard him but Dawson never really hesitated. He activated the annular confinement beam first to prevent the individual from leaving the transporter Platform. A moment later the individual was dematerializing. But Dawson wasn't as ruthless as everyone else on the ship. He simply rematerialized the individual back at the original beam up point and then very quickly, using his vast expertise altered the records of the transporter logs to make it appear as if the individual has indeed been scattered as atoms into space. There was no one on this ship that had as much knowledge as he did with the transporter. And it was a weapon that he had been forced to use before when his life was threatened. It had not been discovered then and it certainly wouldn't be discovered now. Caskie could look all day at the records and the logs and even the ship's sensors would tell her that the individual had ceased to exist as she had ordered. After all, now that the mission was done, Sodra's murderer would have to be ferreted out and dealt with. Mike stepped down from the transporter platform as he had hundreds of times before. As was his habit, he always took stock of the situation upon arrival, and so he noticed that Dawson was looking very worried. It didn't take a genius to know why. The transporter tech had just realized that Jackson was missing. Jennifer nodded to the Bynar although she was speaking to Mike. "Escort this little troll to the brig. Mr. Nayati and I will report to the Captain." "Right away commander." Mike replied with a quick salute reminiscent of the Roman empire on ancient Earth. "Let's move, Troll." Mike ordered and gave the Bynar a shove that nearly knocked him off his feet. The Bynar regained his balance and knowing that any attempt for the moment was futile turned and was allowed to be led to the Brig. "Operations notify Ensign Weaver that his project is in the Cargo Bay. Have him report there immediately and have Rixx report as well. I want her working on the project alongside mister weaver." "Right away captain." The doors to the Bridge slid open and his First Officer strode across the bridge and approached him. "Sir we acquired the components that you requested. "However Captain, not quite everything went to plan. Lt Jackson volunteered to lead the assault on the shield lab and died in the process. Unfortunately we were unable to recover his body." Salid turned and gave her a sly smile. "I see commander. It's of no consequence. Mister smith will be able to handle the duties of chief of Operations. I want Jackson's quarters sealed. No one enters them without my permission. He and I go back a long way, so I'll see to it that his personal affects are handled properly." (reply Caskie) "While you were gone, it seems that Mister Cooper managed to get the assassin to point a finger at the person who ordered him to kill Rosenbauer. The prisoner died unfortunately, but the individual responsible for giving him the order is also most probably a lackey. He's currently in the Agony booth in sickbay. You can see doctor Wyler if you'd like concerning his questioning." (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Transporter Room 1 - ACEO - Ensign (jg) Mitena Rixx (MU) - Day 7 - 1411) Mitena was already on the way to the cargo bay when the order came from operations to go to the cargo bay. She acknowledged the order with a pleased smile. The order came from operations on the bridge, which meant Bird had no say so in the matter. Two security officers stood to either side of the entry into Cargo Bay 3. She would have been more surprised if there hadn't been. She gave them the best rendition of Commander Caskie's "you are beneath me" stare that she could muster. Though she was certain that she hardly did it justice. "I have orders to report to Cargo Bay 3" she said in a flat tone. Neither man responded but the door was open. She tilted her head slightly at the human on the left as she tried to remember where she'd seen him before. Vaguely she could remember that he'd been sent to the Brig for a while for something that she couldn't quite remember. But she did remember that he used to be a Lieutenant and now his rank matched hers. Whatever it was, it must have been pretty bad to be busted down so far. As the cargo bay door actuated closed behind her, she took in the area. The device and it's computer were exactly where she'd thought they'd be, taking up a good section of the middle of the bay. Freshly wired relay junctions were set into the floor. The project terminal had already been put into place as well. Setting down the case next to it, Mitena checked to see what data was available. A complete set of specifications for the computer and the shield generator displayed on the screen and she took it in. Comparatively, the device they had claimed from the Bynar station wasn't as developed as the schematics on the screen. If she was going to make what they had retrieved look like what was on the screen she was going to have to get to work. She began making a circuit around the device, taking various measurements before finally seating down on an the floor next to the device and began putting together her list of needed components. Most of the connectors were abnormally sized and adapters would have to be made so that the various bits would connect as they should. And that was before she could even get into the 'guts' of the machine. Mitena glanced up as the doors opened. She signed deeply and frowned. ~What are these guys doing here?~ (reply Weaver, Benoit) (posted by Ruby) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Science Lab - CSO Lieutenant Dorian Weaver (MU) -Day 7 - 1415) =^= Bridge to Weaver.=^= "Weaver here." Dorian frowned. There was a touch of disappointment in his voice as he replied, "Understood Weaver out." Once the commchannel was closed he turned to his assistant Benoit and spoke. "Looks like we're up to bat. But we're going to have to work with that Damned Bolian Engineer." He said. "Get your things together and let's get to Cargo Bay 3, shall we?" (reply (MU) Benoit) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha- Development Lab Three- Doctor 01100- Day 7- 1416) It was a long time before Doctor 01100 could bring himself to the realization that his computational life partner was gone. Kidnapped. It was terribly lonely being an unmatched Bynar pair, and although he could still sense the connection with his associate and friend, that connection was tenuous at best. Benoit had been unconscious for some time and Doctor 12, paralyzed with fear and concern for both Doctor 12 and 4350318, had stood there trying to deal with everything that had just happened. It wasn't until he realized that someone was trying to open the doors to the lab from the outside that he acted. With a flip of his mental switch, the doors to the lab slid open to allow the security officers into the lab. There was no longer anything to see here that should be restricted. All the most important data was gone now along with the computer and the shield generator. Only some of the test results remained in the labs isolated computers now. Somewhere a star was going to explode and billions of people would die, because someone had stolen the only technology that could shield the solar probe from the ravages of the star's massive radiation output. ~Not only will 12 die, but Billions of others will die as well.~ 01100 thought. 01100 looked up at the closest Starfleet officer. "My friend is injured he may need medical attention." (reply Bowden, Benoit) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha- Development Lab Three- Ensign Benoit- Day 7- 1417) 01100 looked up at the closest Starfleet officer. "My friend is injured he may need medical attention." Benoit moaned. He had the worlds biggest head ache...and back ache, stomach ache, arms and leg aches as well. "What hit me?" (Reply Bowden, Dr. 01100, any) He looked around. "Where's the other Dr.? What happened to the computer and field generator?" (Reply Bowden, Dr. 01100, any) He tried to stand, but then fell down again. He laid on his back looking up at the ceiling. "I don't feel so good." He closed his eyes again. (Reply Bowden, Dr. 01100, any) Morgan Belcher --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Science Lab - ACEO - Ensign (jg) Nathan Benoit (MU) -Day 7 - 1417.5) Lt. Weaver turned to Benoit and said. "Looks like we're up to bat. But we're going to have to work with that Damned Bolian Engineer. Get your things together and let's get to Cargo Bay 3, shall we?" Benoit smiled. "You got it, Boss." Weaver and Benoit headed for Cargo Bay 3. Benoit rubbed his hands together. ~I can't wait to take a peak at that deflector. Oh, the fun we will have...~ They arrived at the doors of the Cargo Bay, the two guards waived the through. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Bridge - FO- Cmdr Jennifer Caskie (MU) - Day 7 - 1418) Jennifer watched as the Captain turned and gave her a sly smile. "I see commander. It's of no consequence. Mister Smith will be able to handle the duties of chief of Operations. I want Jackson's quarters sealed. No one enters them without my permission. He and I go back a long way, so I'll see to it that his personal affects are handled properly." Jennifer simply nodded."Aye Sir I will see to it that his quarters are sealed." "While you were gone, it seems that Mister Cooper managed to get the assassin to point a finger at the person who ordered him to kill Rosenbauer. The prisoner died unfortunately, but the individual responsible for giving him the order is also most probably a lackey. He's currently in the Agony booth in sickbay. You can see doctor Wyler if you'd like to be concerning his questioning." Josh smiled. Now that is something that I would take a great deal of interest in if you have nothing else for me do. I will make sure that Jackson's quarters are sealed on my way to Sickbay Sir. If there is nothing else I will go now." Turning to the Ops Officer on the bridge Jennifer smiled. I need someone from your department to meet me at Lt Jackson's quarters. They are to be sealed on the Captain's orders. Smiling Jennifer entered the turbolift. Stopping at the Senior Officers quarters and Jackson's specifically she watched as Operations Officer sealed them. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Cargo Bay 3 - ACSO - Ensign (jg) Nathan Benoit (MU) -Day 7 - 1419.5) Inside they saw the computer and the generator in the middle of the floor. Morgan Belcher --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha- Development Lab Three- Ens Thaddeus Bowden- Day 7- 1419) Thaddeus staggered to his feet and moved down the corridor towards the door that the transgressor disappeared into. The door slid open and a Bynar looked imploringly at him "My friend is injured he may need medical attention." The Ensign followed him into the lad and though irreverently that this was the first time he had ever heard a single Bynar complete a sentence. He looked across the room and saw a man prone , moaning. "What hit me?" Thaddeus looked at the sciences officer “I not sure but whatever it was, it hit you more than a few times” Which is odd Thaddues mused ~they certainly were not shy about using phasers. The man looked around. "Where's the other Dr.? What happened to the computer and field generator?" “I’m sorry, where who? “ Thaddeus looked confused; he looked around and noticed that the connections for some electrical equipment had been severed. “I think that they were removed” Then had the grace to look sheepish at such an obvious statement. The man tried to stand, but then fell down again. He lay on his back looking up at the ceiling. "I don't feel so good." He closed his eyes again. I can help you to sickbay but I think that it important that we find out …..” Thaddues was interrupted by a familiar presence of a transported form. For a moment Bowden stared at the man and saw a look of surprise on the man’s face that was probably same one on Thaddeus’ face. ~They likely forgot the fuses~ The botanist thought to himself as he launched himself at the newcomer. For a moment, right before the ensign tackled him, the look of surprise changed to a look of resignation. The men wrestled for a moment until a voice interrupted “That’s alright sir, we got him” Thaddeus looked up to see two armed security officers pointing phasers in his general direction released the man and quickly got out of the way. A moment later dead? Commander walked into the room. He turned to the first ensign he saw. "You ensign..?" "Cartwright, sir." the woman answered. "Cartwright, escort this man." he said pointing towards the apparent prisoner, "to the brig." "Yes sir." she said and gestured at the man with her phaser. "But I'm telling you I wasn't with them, they were holding me hostage." he protested. Brian turned to face him. "That's fine, Ensign. It's just a precaution until I can work everything out. I promise we'll get it worked out quickly and someone will take your statement." The ensign resigned himself to obey then and headed for the brig. He took a few more steps forward. "Mister Bowden, isn't it?" “Yes, sir” Thaddeus tore his eyes away from the charred spot on the commander’s uniform "Please help ensign Benoit to the Medical facility. He's been through a hell of a fight and I want him able to answer some questions later." “Surely, sir” Thaddeus extended his hand to Benoit (Reply Benoit) The ensign helped the science officer to his feet "Mister Benoit, please stay in sickbay until I can join you for a debriefing." "I was informed by the Captain that you had someone complicity in the attack on Rosenbauer here. What have you learned so far?" (Reply Wyler) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha- Development Lab Three- Ensign Nathan Benoit- Day 7- 1421) Romeo took a few steps toward Bowden. He's been through a hell of a fight and I want him able to answer some questions later." Romeo said. “Surely, sir” Thaddeus extended his hand to Benoit. With Bowden's help Benoit struggled to his feet. "Thanks friend." He said. "Mister Benoit, please stay in sickbay until I can join you for a debriefing." Said Romeo. Benoit managed a weak smile. "Believe me, I'm not leaving sickbay anytime soon, sir." Benoit an Bowden limped to sickbay. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Cargo Bay 3 - CSO Lieutenant Dorian Weaver (MU) - Day 7 - 1422) Dorian and Nathan stepped into the compartment expecting to find it empty. That was not to be the case. The two security guards at the doorway allowed them entrance without any hassle, because they were supposed to be there, Mitena Rixx, an engineer was also supposed to be there. Dorian was hard-pressed to hide his disappointment. It wasn't that he particularly disliked Rixx. In fact, he hardly knew her. It was what she represented, the Engineering department. That department had been trying to edge out sciences for a very long time. Lieutenant bird was the type that believed that only an engineer could understand alien technology and the like. And since that role traditionally fell to the small sciences departments scattered on the various assault ships in the Imperial fleet, the Chief engineer had no difficulty in expressing those concerns, often to the detriment of Dorian's own science department. ~Where the hell is Maddox?~ Weaver wondered as he watched with amusement as Benoit made his quasi-facetious comments to 'the shield generator' which could have easily been misconstrued as being directed at the female Bolian Engineer. Benoit looked seemingly at Ensign Rixx. "Ah, my beauty, at last I have arrived!" He then proceeded to walk just to the left of her and on to the generator. He patted it lovingly. (reply Rixx) "Well, well, when shall we see what you can do?" the Ensign continued with his charade. (reply Rixx) "Hello Ensign Rixx." Dorian greeted their unwanted co-worker. "Looks like you're the official representative from engineering. So might I ask what your standing orders are at this time?" (reply Rixx) "I see." Dorian said with a nod. "While it is no secret that I don't normally like working with engineering, I'll make an exception for you, since the First officer seems to think you'll be a valuable addition to the team." "Have you had a chance to look over the schematics?" he asked her. (reply Rixx) "And your assessment?" (reply Rixx) "That's very optimistic." He said with a nod, but not impossible. He turned to Benoit. "Stop trying to make it with the generator Harpo and let's get to work. I want you two to focus on the generators coil assemblies. Start by looking for imperfections caused by the manufacturing process. Then check their field generation integrity one-by-one." "Rixx you will be in charge of the fabrication, quality control and assembly/disassembly of the device, while Nathan will be in charge of the testing and calibrations. (reply Rixx, Benoit) "Oh and I know I don't need to remind you that this project is need to know only. You will not discuss it with anyone except the captain, first officer and those directly related to this program. Am I understood?" he added as a reminder of security protocols. (reply Rixx, Benoit) with a nod, he turned away from the two officers to allow them to start their work, as he did so he tapped his commbadge. "Weaver to Maddox." (reply Maddox) "Mister Maddox, your presence is required in Cargo Bay 3. Report at once." (reply Maddox, Rixx, Weaver) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha Moon- Corridor Junction- PCO- Commander Brian Romeo - Day 7 - 1422.5) It took a long while for the body to realize that it was still alive, even if the mind was acutely aware of all the sounds around him. After some time, he forced his oxygen starved muscles to work, still weakened from the near brush with death and a form of enlightenment. He rose to his hands and knees then eventually to his feet. His general well being improving nominally as time passed. He had a terrible headache. His hand reached down and gingerly touched the burnt flesh of his uniform tunic. He rubbed away the burnt fabric and revealed the energy ablating vest that he had helped develop for the Marines during the Civil war. A good portion of the matrix had evaporated under the force of the phaser blast and only a nominal amount of energy had managed to penetrate into the flesh below. "Well, he said to the vest, "you've saved my life this time." He made his way into the lab, which by now was already secured by the Starfleet officers that he had led here. The lab was a shambles and Brian's shield generator and computer were gone. His eyes took in everything quickly. He noted that one of the Bynar doctors was missing as well. ~They needed an expert.~ he thought. There was a Starfleet officer being held under arrest. Benoit apparently had been overcome and was injured. Brian's head was still hurting, and he knew it would only be a matter of time before he could get rid of it. He took a few more steps forward. "Mister Bowden, isn't it?" (reply Bowden) "Please help ensign Benoit to the Medical facility. He's been through a hell of a fight and I want him able to answer some questions later." (reply Bowden) "Mister Benoit, please stay in sickbay until I can join you for a debriefing." (reply Benoit, Bowden) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha- Development Lab Three- Doctor 01100- Day 7- 1423) No sooner had 01100 stated that 4350318 would require medical assistance, then the same ensign issued a low moan as his eyes fluttered open. "What hit me?" He asked. "I believe that the individual was a member of the Species Homo Sapiens Sapiens. he was very violent and was using his natural strength to cause you injury." 01100 replied. Benoit looked around the room as he sat up, "Where's the other Dr.? What happened to the computer and field generator?" "I fear that they have stolen the generator and the computer and kidnapped 01110." the Bynar replied with obvious sadness. "4350318, we must rescue him. He is..." there was a pause, "...my best friend." 4350318 gave him a sympathetic look, and tried to come to his feet. his injuries, however would have none of it and promptly deposited the ensign once again onto the floor. "I don't feel so good." Benoit replied and closed his eyes. for a singular moment 01100 thought that he had expired, but then the occasional deep breath gave his some relief from that fear. There were the sounds of voices coming from someone behind him and 01100 turned to see Commander Romeo, ordering a Starfleet officer taken into custody. Bowden was there coordinating everything and Romeo approached him. He took a few more steps forward. "Mister Bowden, isn't it?" (reply Bowden) "Please help ensign Benoit to the Medical facility. He's been through a hell of a fight and I want him able to answer some questions later." (reply Bowden) "Mister Benoit, please stay in sickbay until I can join you for a debriefing." (reply Benoit) As Bowden assisted Benoit, Romeo began speaking to 01100. "What happened here doctor? I mean in the specific sense not the general." "When the warning came, 4350318 and we powered up the generator and attempted to secure the lab. Somehow, the attackers, knew we were here and they seemed as if they knew exactly what they were looking for." "They killed a Bynar named 10011010110101111 and used his cranial implant to override the door." He continued, " There was a fight and they charged into the room. They subdued 4350318 and took 01110. One of the attackers crossed the field event and was transported someplace." Romeo raised an eyebrow. "Where was he transported?" 01100 shrugged. "I can not say, we do not have enough data, but he most assuredly would not survive the journey. There is nothing in place to prevent his reintegration into a solid object. I am certain that he will be found, dead." "They then forced 01110 to close the doors as you attacked. They disconnected the computer and generator quickly and efficiently as if they knew the design parameters, and then they and the equipment transported away." Romeo was looking at him coldly. "The ensign that you ordered arrested was called a slave and his life threatened. He was transported away, but returned a few moments later. While he was with them I do not know if he was affiliated with them. He could have been under duress." 01100 continued. Romeo nodded. "Thank you doctor. I'll see to it that I remember what you've said when I question him. If his story proves out, I'll see to it he is allowed to return to duty." 01100 looked at Romeo. "What will happen to 01110 and what will happen to the star system whose sun is threatening the pre-warp culture that orbits it?" "We'll get 01110 back alive and well and we'll do everything in our power to keep that culture alive." Romeo lied. 01100 nodded. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Cargo Bay 3 - ACEO - Ensign (jg) Mitena Rixx (MU) - Day 7 - 1424) "Ah, my beauty, at last I have arrived!" Benoit said, a smile on his face. Mitena rolled her eyes at Benoit as he patted the generator. "Everyone already knows you've been infatuated with me since I fixed the replicator in your quarters." She said slightly under her breath, not doubting that he had heard her. She smiled and stood up with her PADD in hand. "Well, well, when shall we see what you can do?" Benoit continued. Mitena just shook her head and turned her attention to Lieutenant Weaver. "Hello Ensign Rixx. Looks like you're the official representative from engineering. So might I ask what your standing orders are at this time?" ~always fun to talk to people when you knew they didn't want to talk you~ "In simplistic terms - make this" she said gesturing broadly at the generator, "work like the schematics on the project computer." "I see. While it is no secret that I don't normally like working with engineering, I'll make an exception for you, since the First officer seems to think you'll be a valuable addition to the team." She kept the smile on her face, impassive. "Have you had a chance to look over the schematics?" he asked her. "I have." She said, waiting for his next question. "And your assessment?" He asked, predictably. "While the generator and computer are close to what the schematics are going for, they aren't quite there. This version is several generations behind what is outlined. However, I think with some reworking of components along with some other modifications that we can get the same output results that the schematics indicate are possible. Between fabrication of appropriate parts and internal modifications, we are looking at 3 days on the outside." As Weaver began laying down the orders of what each person's responsibilities were it was easy to assume that he'd already spent some time considering what needed to be done. When he concluded, Mitena nodded in agreement to the assignment she had been given, "That sounds like a plan to me." "Oh and I know I don't need to remind you that this project is need to know only. You will not discuss it with anyone except the captain, first officer and those directly related to this program. Am I understood?" he added "Completely understood." She said. Since the Lieutenant turned, Mitena sat back down where she'd been in when they had entered the cargo bay. "The access panels to the coil assemblies are on the bottom left side." She said, without looking back up at Benoit. "If you want to go ahead and pull the access panel, you are more than welcome to." (reply Benoit) "So...when did they finally let you out of your quarters? What was it you did this time?" Mitena asked with a large grin on her face. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha - Sick Bay - Ensign Nathan Benoit - Day 7 -1424.5) With Bowden's help, Benoit lay down on one of the gurneys. He smiled at Bowden before dozing off. (Reply None.) (Posted by Morgan Belcher) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO- Lieutenant Aleesa Wyler (MU) - Day 7 - 1425) Caskie turned to Dr Wyler and gave her a patronizing smile. ~One of these, days, we'll see you smile for the last time.~ Alee thought as the CMO spoke. "Whilst the Agonizer Booth is most usually configured to punish people and extract information by the use of pain, I found during my time as CMO that there were various other ways that it could be used." Alee raised an eyebrow. "The use of pleasure was one of them to be exact." Jennifer regarded the CMO, "If I might be allowed to demonstrate?" Not waiting for an answer the Former Chief Medical Officer walked across to where Nate was and smiled at him. "Chief Fuller, please activate the pleasure sensors in the booth. I will question the prisoner and depending on his answer I will notify you whether to cause him pain or pleasure." (reply Fuller) Always the sly one, Caskie then strode in front of the booth and looked the prisoner up and down. "Tell me, what is your name?" "Engineer's Mate Joshim Navix, Commander." He replied as he caught his breath. Jennifer turned to Nate. "Activate the pleasure stimuli." (reply Fuller iyw) The engineer's mate seemed to take on a sublime glow as his body was wracked with waves of pleasure. In opposition to the pain settings, this setting behaved much the same way, shifting the sensations from one nerve cluster to the other. This time however, transmitting pleasant and very strong sensations of ecstasy to the subject's brain. A few moments later the prisoner was released from his ecstatic state and returned to normalcy. A few moments later Caskie asked him another question as Aleesa watched with interest. "Who gave you the order to assassinate Rosenbauer?" Navix shook his head and mentally prepared himself for the punishment that he knew was coming. Jennifer turned to Nate again. "Pain this time." (Reply Fuller iyw) Watching as he convulsed Jennifer simply shook her head. "You see, I can make you do anything I want you to do and you will eventually answer me. Finally the pleasure and the pain will be more than you can bear and you will give me the answer I seek. Oh, not now, and possibly not hours from now, but I can keep you alive in this booth for a great deal longer than you think you can survive or even longer than you will want to survive. How long you survive is entirely up to me. Or perhaps to the answers you give me. We will allow you fifteen minutes of rest whilst you consider this. By all means get comfortable, what will happen to you next will not be, how should I put it, comfortable from your point of view." Wyler smiled as Caskie continued. "I however, am looking forward to it." Josh smiled at the prisoner and walked out of the alcove. Aleesa followed her. "Dr Wyler, I apologize, whilst I have some free time I would like to take over the questioning of this prisoner personally." "That's a bit unorthodox commander." Aleesa replied preparing herself for the beratement that she felt would be coming. "I do understand that I am somewhat stepping on your toes here," Caskie continued, in a disarming tone, "but I hope that you will allow me to question this prisoner since I do have a vested interest in the outcome." Aleesa considered it for a moment. It wouldn't be a bad thing to allow the first officer some leeway. Maybe in the future there would be a benefit that could be reaped from it. "Alright Commander. But under the circumstances, as Chief Medical Officer of this ship, I reserved the right to monitor the interrogation and to call it to an end if I choose." (reply Caskie) "Then since we have an understanding, I believe our 15 minutes are about to expire." (reply Caskie) The prisoner seemed to have taken Caskie's advice about getting comfortable serious. He was stretching out a few sore muscles in the limited space of the booth and immediately came to attention when the First officer returned to the alcove. "Permission to speak commander?" The prisoner inquired. (reply Caskie) NRPG: I assume it is granted. The prisoner seemed to channel his reserves of strength before continuing. "I understand the position that you are in sir. And I also understand the position I am in. But can I ask you how you would expect me to handle this situation if I were your man? How long would I have to be tortured before I had shown my loyalty?" (Reply Caskie) "Then with all due respect Ma'am I am not a coward and I'm not a traitor. I will do my duty and deal with the situation for as long as you've suggested. Once that time is expired, I'll be more than glad to tell you everything I know. Then I only ask that you please have mercy on me. If I had known that the name I was delivering was one of your people, I would have never delivered it." His face grew sad, then he continued, "I am ready now commander." He prepared himself. (reply Caskie) Wyler was impressed. It was an interesting tactic. One that she had to admire in the man, even if it would be a vain attempt to survive the ordeal. He wasn't begging for his life. He wasn't negotiating either. He was simply determined to die honorably. (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Sickbay - CMO- Lieutenant Aleesa Wyler (MU) - Day 7 - 1425.5) Alee was watching intently as the prisoner, one engineer's mate Joshim Navix squirmed in intense agony as the agony booth shifted the stimulation of the pain receptors in his nerve clusters from point to point. The good doctor had been working on this particular hard case for a good ten minutes. So far he was willing to babble on about how he was not responsible and how he knew nothing of what she was talking about. The activity in his creative centers of his brain however were telling her a very different story. The man was clearly lying through his teeth. She gave another nod to Fuller who paused the device for a moment. "Who ordered you to pass the information to Crewman Sanders to have Rosenbauer killed?" she asked again. "I didn't... Aaarrgghh!" the man finished with a throaty scream of agony as Wyler nodded and Fuller flipped the switch. The man convulsed in pain, as the machine randomly activated the nerve clusters in several waves across his body. Wyler turned when she heard the doors to the main sickbay cycle. She looked at Fuller. "Keep questioning him Nate. He'll break sooner or later." Wyler was about to turn to intercept their new guest when Caskie entered into the alcove that held the Agonizer and she regarded Aleesa for a few moments. "I was informed by the Captain that you had someone complicity in the attack on Rosenbauer here. What have you learned so far?" "Well," Wyler began, "I've learned that he has a very high pain threshold and that he is trying to convince me that he knows nothing and that he has in no way been participating in the attempt to kill ensign Rosenbauer." ~Your pet pit bull~ "I also know that he's lying. His brain scans prove it, even if his words haven't. It's only a matter of time before I break him and he will tell me everything that he knows and then will beg me to let him die." As if to accentuate her words, another scream issued from the booth as Fuller continued with the pain therapy. (reply Caskie) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Cargo Bay 3 - Ensign Benoit (MU) - Day 7 - 1426) That's very optimistic." He said with a nod, but not impossible. I'll be responsible for all final approvals and hold the ultimate responsibility for the project. I need to start forming the Boronite into their inversion charges, so I'll start that while you are working on this aspect of the project." Benoit nodded and looked at Rixx. "Guess it's time to open her up and see how she works?" "Oh and I know I don't need to remind you that this project is need to know only. You will not discuss it with anyone except the captain, first officer and those directly related to this program. Am I understood?" he added as a reminder of security protocols. "I'm not in any hurry to get confined to quarters or go to sickbay..." Benoit shuddered a little. "Completely Understood." Rixx Replied. with a nod, he turned away from the two officers to allow them to start their work. "The access panels to the coil assemblies are on the bottom left side." Rixx said, without looking back up at Benoit. "If you want to go ahead and pull the access panel, you are more than welcome to." Benoit smiled. "Don't mind if I do." He began removing the access panels. "So...when did they finally let you out of your quarters? What was it you did this time?" Mitena asked with a large grin on her face. Benoit blanched a little. "It was just a very small fire in sickbay. I was just making some modifications on a scanner. Not...much harm done." ~I'm never going to live this down.~ "Would you look at that." Benoit said, attempting to change the subject. "Interesting coil design." (Reply Rixx, any.) Posted by Morgan Belcher --------------------------------------------------------------------- (ISS Rosenante - Sickbay - FO- Cmdr Jennifer Caskie (MU) - Day 7 - 1427) Jennifer had made it all the way almost to the Agoniser Booth before Dr Wyler intercepted her. As the doctor gave her report Jennifer simply smiled to herself. "I've learned that he has a very high pain threshold and that he is trying to convince me that he knows nothing and that he has in no way been participating in the attempt to kill Ensign Rosenbauer." ~Your pet pit bull~ "I also know that he's lying. His brain scans prove it, even if his words haven't. It's only a matter of time before I break him and he will tell me everything that he knows and then will beg me to let him die." ~Yes you will extract that information and you will quite happily kill him to extract it.~ Jennifer thought. She turned to Dr Wyler and smiled. "Whilst the Agoniser Booth is most usually configured to punish people and extract information by the use of pain, I found during my time as CMO that there were various other ways that it could be used." "The use of pleasure was one of them to be exact." Jennifer regarded the CMO, "If I might be allowed to demonstrate?" Not waiting for an answer she walked across to where Mate was and smiled at him. "Chief Fuller, please activate the pleasure sensors in the booth. I will question the prisoner and depending on his answer I will notify you whether to cause him pain or pleasure." She strode in front of the booth and looked the prisoner up and down. "Tell me, what is your name?" The prisoner answered her honestly and Jennifer turned to Mate. "Activate the pleasure stimuli." A few moments later she asked another question. "Who gave you the order to assassinate Rosenbaeur?" The prisoner refused to answer and Jennifer turned to Mate again. "Pain this time." Watching as he convulsed Jennifer simply shook her head. "We will allow you fifteen minutes of rest whilst you consider this. By all means get comfortable, what will happen to you next will not be, how should I put it, comfortable from your point of view." "I however am looking forward to it." Josh smiled at the prisoner and walked out of the alcove. "Dr Wyler, I apologise, whilst I have some free time I would like to take over the questioning of this prisoner personally." (reply Wyler) "I do understand that I am somewhat stepping on your toes here, but I hope that you will allow me to question this prisoner since I do have a vested interest in the outcome." (reply Wyler) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious- Bridge - CO, Captain Saleke - Day 7 - 1730) The Hexicor Alpha system was growing on the viewscreen as the captain watched, as has been stated earlier communications with the Bynars were impossible at this time due to the damage to the long range communications systems. The ships warp drive engines were in good shape as the use of emergency warp had been curtailed some 55 hours ago. The Furious would be arriving in the Hexicor solar system in a little over one hour federation standard time. The discovery of Captain Haverly aboard the ship in a ravaged state had been unforeseen but unsurprising and the female who had placed him in such poor condition was unknown at this time. The sensor placed in the jeffries tube by Commander Sloane had not been tripped indicating the culprit had found out about Haverly's recovery and was avoiding the proximity of the cul-de-sac. This indicated a high degree of cunning and confidence, had the saboteur been in the least uncertain of the measures she had taken and the possibility of evidence that could be used against her she would have returned in an attempt to reclaim it. Indeed no DNA evidence had been uncovered on anything used against Captain Haverly, the spy had been diligent in using gloves as well as a small voice synthesizer to disguise her voice when speaking with the officer. His condition indicated a person with extremely violent but controlled tendencies, a cold blooded sort in human terms who would stop at nothing and use and spare no one in their quest to carry out their plans. Why Haverly had been chosen to be the recipient of such brutality was unknown at this time though certain extrapolations could be made if one observed these actions against the larger backdrop of conspiracy and treachery painted by Captain Salid and carried out by whatever ship was attempting to manufacture an omega device. Was the saboteur a member of an organization that had supported Doenitz and was it possible that this organization wished to see one like him returned to power? If so and if they were successful the entirety of this new federation government stood poised on the brink of chaos and anarchy if this group was successful and the power vacuum that would be created would be a prime opportunity for them. There was also the immutable fact that the saboteur must either be highly placed or have high-level access, gaining access to the knowledge of Haverly's rescue which was not widely circulated was a feat in itself which indicated no one could be above suspicion, even the ships senior officers. "Doctor Gralen have you scanned the system?" "Yes captain." Holis had calmed considerably since their battle with the Rosenante, although the situation was not to his liking he understood Saleke did nothing that did not have a 'logical' reason and there were whispers that evidence being accumulated might exonerate the Rosenante of charges. "At this distance there is very little I can tell you except that Hexicor Alpha and Hexicor Prime are there and have steady power outputs, any damage they might have taken will become more apparent after we are well within the system." "Time to arrival in the system doctor?" "One hour and thirteen minutes captain, from that it will take another forty three minutes to orbital vector." "Mr. Williams shield and weapons status." The vulcan said as he turned to the tactical station. (Reply: Andrus) Turning his attention to engineering he asked. "Mr. Matrix after we have dropped out of warp how long do you estimate it will take to effect repairs to the communications array?" (Reply: Lt. Matrix) "Use as much manpower as you need to speed up those repairs, I want to see communications online before we leave orbit around Hexicor Alpha. Also be prepared should your services be necessary on Hexicor Prime for repairs to the facility." (Reply: Steve) Turning again to Andrus he said. "Prepare security personnel for away teams to Hexicor Prime Mr. Williams, should the enemy ship already have arrived there will be damage to assess as well as an investigation to conduct. I, Commander Gralen and yourself and will be transporting over initially along with medical and security personnel. Are there any questions?" (Reply: Andrus) There would be more orders coming as they neared the facility and their intelligence on the situation there increased, for now that was enough. The Furious would be prepared for any eventuality. (Reply: Andrus, Matrix, any) (Posted by Charles) --------------------------------------------------------------------- USS Furious- Bridge - ACEO, Lt. Matrix - Day 7 - 1734) Captain Saleke turned his attention to engineering and asked. "Mr. Matrix after we have dropped out of warp how long do you estimate it will take to effect repairs to the communications array?" Matrix had been pondering that and many other questions. ³Captain, I estimate repairs taking from four to six hours. I¹ll know more when my teams start work, we¹ve not had a chance for a close inspection.² The Captain replied, "Use as much manpower as you need to speed up those repairs, I want to see communications online before we leave orbit around Hexicor Alpha. Also be prepared should your services be necessary on Hexicor Prime for repairs to the facility." ³Aye Sir, understood.² replied Matrix The Captain continued, ³There would be more orders coming as they neared the facility and their intelligence on the situation there increased, for now that was enough. The Furious would be prepared for any eventuality.² ³Engineering will be ready Sir.² interjected Matrix. The yellow alert lamp remained in operation as the situation was still volatile. "Doctor Gralen." "I'm scanning the surface now captain, readings coming in." Holis whistled at what he saw. "On screen." The forward viewscreen changed from a general picture of the artificial planet to a view of Hexicor Prime's main control facility, blackened areas were in evidence around its periphery. "Mr. Williams do you detect signs of any enemy ship in the area?" Saleke asked without taking his eyes from the viewscreen, his analytical mind breaking down what he saw as he spoke. (Reply: Andrus) "Cancel yellow alert." The captain ordered in response. (Reply: Andrus) "I'm reading severe damage to their communications array." Holis spoke from the side. "Their communications array appears to have been destroyed as well Captain but the rest of the artificial moon is intact, no readings of any other damage." ~ Both facilities silenced so as not to allow a distress call and the attack on the artificial planet was not meant to cause more than superficial damage, a ruse then to draw attention from their primary target.~ "How long before we are within transporter range of Hexicor Alpha?" "Two mintes captain." Was the reply from the helm. "Mr. William gather your security team and notify medical to meet us in transporter room 1, all are to be armed with standard phasers. Mr. Matrix begin work on the Furious' communications array. Commander Sloane the ship is yours until I return. Doctor Gralen with me. Mr. Tsoumada continue compiling damage reports from the surface." He had been spending time making sure the shields and weapons were at their peak. OPS and Engineering had been miracle workers. Andrus's thoughts were diverted back to the here and now with the question from Captain Saleke. "Mr. Williams do you detect signs of any enemy ship in the area?" Saleke asked without taking his eyes from the view screen, his analytical mind breaking down what he saw as he spoke. Taking a moment to read the scans output, Andrus replied "None detected Sir{". captain Saleke seemed satisfied enough to order the Yellow Alert to be rescinded. Andrus canceled the Yellow Alert. Hollis and Saleke discussed what the scan did reveal. The Vulcan captain made a decision and issued the following orders " "Mr. William gather your security team and notify medical to meet us in transporter room 1, all are to be armed with standard phasers. Mr. Matrix begin work on the Furious' communications array. Commander Sloane the ship is yours until I return. Doctor Gralen with me. Mr. Tsoumada continue compiling damage reports from the surface." Having given the appropriate orders the captain slid from the chair and made for the turbo lift followed by Holis and Andrus. "Aye Captain" the CTSO replied. His fingers tapped out the commands needed and notified his security officers to report as the captain ordered. Andrus followed Hollis and the Captain off the bridge. (Rreply: Any SO's or bridge) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious- Bridge - FO, Commander Erin Sloane- Day 7 - 1928) Erin sat in the second seat watching the main view screen as the dual artificial planets grew larger and larger as the Furious approached. Her eyes were well accustomed to searching for anything out of the ordinary, and that task was somewhat complicated by the amount of free-floating debris that seemed to have blossomed from some of the surfaces of the planetoids. The Furious made good time and slipped into an orbital vector around Hexikor Prime, the larger of the artificial worlds. Surface scans began immediately. "Doctor Gralen." The captain said, leaving the rest of the order unspoken. "I'm scanning the surface now captain, readings coming in." Holis whistled at what he saw. "On screen." The forward view screen changed from a general picture of the artificial planet to a view of Hexikor Prime's main control facility, blackened areas were in evidence around its periphery. Erin turned to look at her command display. It was an interesting sign of force, but fairly ineffectual. The only significant damage to the facility was to their communications systems. "Mr. Williams do you detect signs of any enemy ship in the area?" Saleke asked. "None detected Sir" The Furious' tactical officer reported. "I concur , Captain." Erin stated for the record. "Cancel yellow alert." The captain ordered in response. As the alert returned to condition green. Gralen gave a concise report. "I'm reading severe damage to their communications array." Holis spoke from the side. "As well as blast damage to several minor facilities. Central command and control however is untouched as is their central processing node. Power generation units beneath the surface appear to have sustained superficial damage." "And what of Hexikor Alpha?" The captain asked. "Their communications array appears to have been destroyed as well Captain but the rest of the artificial moon is intact, no readings of any other damage." ~A feint?~ she wondered. ~Dealing damage to the main facility to throw us off the trail for a while? That's sneaky.~ "How long before we are within transporter range of Hexikor Alpha?" Saleke inquired. it seemed that the Captain had come to the same conclusion. "Two minutes captain." Was the reply from the helm. "Mr. William gather your security team and notify medical to meet us in transporter room 1, all are to be armed with standard phases. Mr. Matrix begin work on the Furious' communications array. Commander Sloane the ship is yours until I return. Doctor Gralen with me. Mr. Tsoumada continue compiling damage reports from the surface." Moving to one of the security complement he accepted a type II phaser pistol and attached it to his belt. "Locate their central control and beam us in just outside." (Reply: Andrus, anyone who wants to play a security officer, we have three slots. ;-) "Beamdown coordinates are entered captain. Ready when you are." The transporter officer stated. "All weapons are to be set to stun and will remain holstered unless ordered or unless we are fired upon." The captain stated plainly. "Anyone removing their weapon otherwise will face disciplinary proceedings. This is a fact finding mission, not a military one and the stations personnel may be suspicious initially." (Reply: Any) The transporter officer noted a blinking tell and answered the incoming communication, after doing so he looked back to Saleke. "Scans have picked up a body floating outside the station captain." "Lock on and beam the corpse to sickbay for examination immediately after transporting us over." "Aye sir." Stepping upon the transporter pad last he turned to look at the officer. "Energize." --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Furious - Transporter Room 1930.5 ) Hollis, Andrus and the Captain arrived. He smiled to see his Security Officers present and armed. He nodded to them and stepped near them as the Captain issues his additional instructions. They were armed and would only draw their weapons if fired upon first. This made sense to Andrus as the situation was strange to say the least. (reply: Any SOs or Captain or Hollis) (posted by: Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexicor Alpha, outside main control - CO, Captain Saleke - Day 7 - 1936) The transporter's scintillating columns of energy erupted outside of the doors to the facilities main control room, the azure energy turning into sparkling motes that grew in intensity as eight forms appeared. The brilliant energy faded quickly as the forms solidified within them, dying away within seconds and leaving the officers in ready positions should an attack be mounted. The captain was the first to move, striding to a startled pair of Bynars who had happened into the area. "I am captain Saleke of the Furious, where is the Federation administrator?" The two Bynars looked at one another then replied. "Commander Romeo..." "... Is investigating the ..." " ... scene of the theft of... " "... technological components ..." " ... from one of the labs." Their manner of speaking while broken was concise and to the point. "The attack was concluded..." " ... five hours ago and..." " ... we were unable to..." "... noify starfleet command. How..." " ... did you know to come?" Saleke did not look from one to the other as many often did, focusing his attention on the first Bynar to speak since they were essentially connected electronically and the stereo effect of their speech as they were standing close together was easily followed. "We Have been following the warp trail of a marauding ship that first attacked Bardon Alpha and then made for this facility. Please notify Commander Romeo that we have arrived, we will wait for him in the control center as we begin our investigation. Do you have any wounded or damage that needs to be corrected?" Then turned back the way they had come. Saleke nodded as the doors to the control center slid open and turned to the away team. (reply Benoit, Bowden) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha Moon- Command Center- PCO- Commander Brian Romeo - Day 7 - 1950) Brian had been mentally preparing himself for whatever line of inquiry was likely to come from Saleke. He knew from experience how complicated and difficult the captain could be. Brian Romeo had been transferring commands under Admiral Heatherby when the ship had been forced to divert to handle Saleke's attack against Heatherby's support areas. Romeo had been forced to serve as a tactical officer of the battered ship and had been the one to finally send the torpedoes into the Norway class ship that Saleke had been using to harass them. Of course, when he had been found, Brian had been told. At the time, it had not seemed important. Now, however, it was very important. The doors to the command center slid open and Brian had no difficulty spotting The Vulcan Captain and few officers that were in attendance. The Bynars were going about their business, trying to coordinate everything that they could as efficiently as only a Bynar can. Brian crossed the distance and stopped just short of the Captain. he raised his hand in the traditional Vulcan salute. "Captain Saleke, Live long and prosper. I am Commander Romeo, The Starfleet Projects Commanding Officer. " (reply Saleke) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha Moon- Command Center- Captain Saleke - Day 7 - 1951) Saleke noted the opening of the command center doors and the arrival of the project administrator as his security personnel were scrutinizing the internal logs and transferring them onto PADDs to be digested by him at a later time. Some items of note had already been brought to his attention and catalogued including the arrival of the marauders and many of their depredations as they had swept through the facility in search of their targets. Some of the experimental testing was locked and beyond the ability of Doctor Gralen to penetrate and though he was capable of overriding those codes using the authority given him by the omega directive he had so far refrained in deference to the Project administrator. Should he be forestalled in his request for access to that data however he had no inhibitions against using any and all means necessary to achieve his objective. "Captain Saleke, Live long and prosper. I am Commander Romeo, The Starfleet Projects Commanding Officer." The tall, heavily muscled man said as he came to a stop before the vulcan and gave him the proper salute for the greeting. Nonplussed Saleke raised his right hand in a vee as well in the salute that had its origins thousands of years in Alpha Eridani A's storied past as his left hand remained at his side. "Live long and prosper as well Commander Romeo, my apologies that we were unable to prevent the attack upon your facility." His right hand was lowered then and moved behind the small of his back where it was cupped in his left as he balanced lightly on the balls of his feet. "The Furious came with all speed when the target of the marauding vessel became known." Volumes were left unsaid as he moved to the purpose of the summons. " I require access to the data on the components that were stolen from your facility as well as access to the prisoner you now hold, I trust that you will be forthcoming on these requests quickly so that the Furious can continue its pursuit. I also require the identity of whomever sanctioned the testing and development of these components." (Reply: Romeo) "And what reason Commander do you give for denying me access to your database?" (Reply: Romeo) The vulcan stepped close to the man, well within his "personal space" with his hands still cupped in a relaxed position behind his back. His manner was as even and emotionless as though they were discussing the weather. The captains voice was perfectly modulated but carried throughout the room. "Commander if you continue to be uncooperative it is well within the scope of my orders and responsibility to place you under arrest. While I myself have the capability of overriding your lockout due to the present threat I deemed it appropriate to give you the opportunity to cooperate with this investigation. The exact nature of the threat will remain unspecified as per Starfleet general orders." (Reply: Romeo) (Posted by Charles) :-) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Hexikor Alpha Moon- Command Center- PCO- Commander Brian Romeo - Day 7 - 1955) Saleke returned the salute with all the practice that Romeo would expect of a Vulcan. "Live long and prosper as well Commander Romeo, my apologies that we were unable to prevent the attack upon your facility. The Furious came with all speed when the target of the marauding vessel became known." "And for that I am thankful, Captain." Romeo replied. "I require access to the data on the components that were stolen from your facility as well as access to the prisoner you now hold, I trust that you will be forthcoming on these requests quickly so that the Furious can continue its pursuit. I also require the identity of whomever sanctioned the testing and development of these components." "Of course Captain. I'd be glad to provide them to you." Romeo replied. "But they're not on the main network. They're isolated to the..." He was interrupted by the brusque nature of the Vulcan captain. "And what reason Commander do you give for denying me access to your database?" Saleke demanded. "Captain I was merely..." The Vulcan stepped close to the man, well within his "personal space" with his hands still cupped in a relaxed position behind his back. The captain's voice was perfectly modulated but carried throughout the room. "Commander if you continue to be uncooperative it is well within the scope of my orders and responsibility to place you under arrest. While I myself have the capability of overriding your lockout due to the present threat I deemed it appropriate to give you the opportunity to cooperate with this investigation. The exact nature of the threat will remain unspecified as per Starfleet general orders." Romeo remained unaffected by the captain's closeness. He had after all expected some sort of issue with Saleke, considering their past history. Besides he had nothing to worry about, the project was well documented and the data for the cover could easily be confirmed. "Captain," Romeo began, "with all due respect sir. I have not in any way refused to be cooperative. I was merely attempting to inform you that the data that you seek is not on the general network. It is located in an isolated database in the lab that was attacked." "The project records are certainly available for your review. The Paratrinic shield project and it's controlling system the Class 11 bioneural computer were the targets of the raiders." Romeo continued without any difficulty caused by the Captain's closeness. Primarily because he himself had used this same tactic to intimidate junior officers, and he was not about to be intimidated by the likes of Saleke. "The project is codenamed Vanguard, Captain. It was sanctioned by Admiral Sadiya of Starfleet command. It's purpose is to build a shield generator capable of protecting a specialized deep penetration stellar probe long enough for it to gather significant data on the Wolf-Rayet binary pair in the Sigma Trianguli system. One of the pair is collapsing rapidly and threatens to wipe out the inhabited planet that orbits the pair. There is a pre-warp culture there and this probe may reveal information critical for extending the life of the star long enough to allow the planet's inhabitants to eventually achieve warp drive." "The computer is designed to autonomously recalibrate and adjust the shield frequencies and harmonics to maximize the probes odds of survivability. The project was taken off the primary database because of the potential military uses. Thus the high security levels for the project." Romeo allowed a slight smile then. "If you'd like captain I will gladly escort you and your people to the lab where the data and one of the remaining Bynar scientists working on the project are located. I can not stress enough captain that it is imperative that the shield and computer be recovered and returned to us as soon as possible. The repercussions of this delay will already cost us valuable time that will be unable to reclaim. Billions of sentients are depending upon this probe for their continued survival." "The prisoner in question is in the brig, and I have no reservations about allowing you to speak with him. His name is Dirax, and he is a transporter technician assigned to the station. It is not yet clear whether he was complicit with the Rosenante at this time, although I suspect that he was not. I simply have not yet had the time to verify the facts.
